Kayaks on the shore of Hume Lake at the Hume Lake Christian Camps.
A kayak is a small narrow boat, usually propelled by a double-bladed paddle. In the UK, the term "canoe" is often used when referring to this type of boat. The word "kayak" means "man's boat" or "hunter's boat" and were first used by the Inuit, Yup'ik, and Aleut people to hunt on inland lakes, rivers, and coastal waters of the Arctic, North Atlantic, and North Pacific oceans. Modern kayaks are primarily used for recreation - fishing, photography, or just paddling on a lake - although there are models designed to be used in rougher waters such as the ocean surf and river whitewater, and even specialty designs such as inflatables or foldable.
Hume Lake is a reservoir located in the Sequoia National Forest in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. The 87-acre lake was formed by the construction of the world's first concrete reinforced multiple arch dam in 1908. It was originally used to store logs for...
