Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest, and lowest place in North America. In 1913 the temperature in Death Valley reached 134°F (56.7°C), holding the record of the highest ambient air temperature ever recorded on Earth. Summer temperatures of 120°F are common. It was formed in 1933 as a national monument and was expanded became a national park in 1994.
