Description
The Australian Pied Cormorant is found around the coasts of Australasia. They nest in colonies around the shore, on trees, islets, or cliffs. They are coastal rather than oceanic birds and some can be found on inland waters. They are fish-eaters and also consume eels and even water snakes. Cormorants are also commonly called shags, referring to the bird's crest.
