Description
Anna's Humminbirds are most often thought of as having a red head, but as you can see that's not necessarily the case. At this particular angle the prismatic feathers produced not only reds, but also gold and green.
Anna's Hummingbirds the most common hummingbird on the Pacific Coast. Weighing less than the weight of a nickle, these tiny birds expend so much energy that they must eat half their weight in nectar each day. At night they enter a hibernation-like state. Their heart rate and breathing slow down and their body temperature falls from the daily normal of 107 degrees to as low as 48 degrees Fahrenheit.
