The Norwegian Pearl is the third of four Jewel class cruise ships operated by Norwegian Cruise Lines. It was built from 2005-2006 by Meyer Werft GmbH and sailed on its maiden voyage December 2nd, 2006 from Southampton, England, to Miami, Florida. It is a Panamax ship, meaning that its dimensions allow it to fit through the locks of the Panama Canal. It is 965 feet long and has fifteen decks.
. .
Norwegian Cruise Line was founded as Norwegian Caribbean Line in 1966 operating a car ferry between Southampton and Gibraltar. In 1979 it acquired the ocean liner SS France, rebuilt it into a cruise ship , and renamed her Norway. This was the largest cruise ship at the time, and remained the longest cruise ship at 1,035 feet until surpassed by the Queen Mary 2 in 2004. Norwegian pioneered many firsts in the cruise industry, such as the first combined air-sea program, and was the first line to develop new ports in the Caribbean.
