Description
One of only ninety-five 540K Cabriolet A's built in 1938, this Mercedes-Benz was built for comfortable grand touring for two with their full complement of luggage. It's supercharged 5.4L straight-8 engine put out the power of 180 horses and could propel the 5,500 pound car up to 110mph, but with the lack of power steering you'd need the arms of Popeye to maneuver it through the turns.
This example is parked in the collection of the Nethercutt Museum, with oil in the crankcase, a full tank of gas, and keys in the ignition. Like all the other cars in the Nethercutt Museum, it's driven on public roads at least once per year. Watch for it at the Sylmar, California, Burger King drive through.
