Artist's Description
High atop a fishing boat mast in Morro Bay, California, an osprey pauses from an afternoon meal of a jacksmelt to have a look over it's shoulder. This predator feeds almost exclusively on the fish that it finds swimming near the surface of the water. Spotting them from an altitude of up to 130 feet in the air, the osprey will briefly hover before plunging into the water talons first, digging its claws into an unfortunate fish which will be carried to a convenient perch and consumed.
