Description
Lesser Flamingos tend to be white and light pink instead of the bright pink and orange associated with other flamingo species due to their diet. They are the smallest flamingo species in the world, and also the most abundant. Lesser Flamingos are found in the wild on the west coast of Africa from Mauritania to Cameroon, southern Africa in Angola, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Mozambique, and following the Gregory Rift from Tanzania to the Persian Gulf. There are also populations in a small area of southeastern Niger, western India, and southwestern Pakistan.
If you can't make it to Botswana, Lesser Flamingos are one of the most common species found in zoos and wild animal parks, such as this resident of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
