Description
Does it make the car go faster? No? Rip it out then. The cockpit of a race car contains only the bare necessities for keeping the car moving and in control. Heavy padded plastics give way to bare metal and exposed wiring. Gauges and switches are bolted to the roll cage and fuses and relays sit exposed for easy access. Nothing unused remains, except the one item you hope never needs using.
The 24 Hours of LeMons is an endurance race series for cars that are bought and prepped for the track for $500 USD or less. Just about anything with four wheels that was street legal when it was made and passes the safety inspection is welcome. The rules do let you spend more for the wheels, brakes, and required safety gear, but if the judges decide the basic car is worth more than $500 you'll be penalized one lap for each $10 they decide you've gone over. No prior racing experience or training is required - if you've got a driver's license and an old beater, you're ready to race.
