Description
...a Caddy? 1930s were not a great decade for luxury car builders, but there was still a limited market for cars such as this 1930 Cadillac.
For nearly 70 years, cars across all of General Motors' brands included a small name plate featuring the image of a horse-drawn carriage.
Fisher began by manufacturing horse-drawn carriages in 1908. When the new-fangled horseless carriage was invented, automobile manufacturers built the chassis and contracted for coach builders to make bodies. The company started providing bodies for General Motors in 1916, and in 1919 GM bought a controlling interest. By 1926 Fisher was completely integrated into General Motors, and since then the “Body by Fisher” name plate could be found on their cars all the way into the 1990s.
This car is a bit of an oddity. This Fisher Dual-Cowl Phaeton body wasn't available for the 1930 model year, but New York band leader Gilbert Maurer talked Cadillac into installing this leftover body onto his newly ordered V-16 chassis.
