Description
This old brush hangs on a wall in in the remains of Burro Schmidt's workshop in the California desert.
Burro Schmidt was a prospector from Rhode Island who moved to the California desert following the deaths of his six brothers and sisters from consumption. There he spent over thirty years digging what is now known as the Burro Schmidt Tunnel, a one-half mile long tunnel through the El Paso Mountains of the Mojave desert. He dug the tunnel through solid granite alone, and soon after it was finished he walked away to live the remainder of his life in a nearby town.
