Description
Tourists come from around the world to ride on San Francisco's cable cars, but most never see the equipment that makes it all work.
General Electric motors power the wheels that pull cables under San Francisco's Hyde, Califonrnia, Mason, and Powell streets. They're what move the city's famous cable cars up and down San Francisco's hilly streets. The Washington/Mason cable car barn in Nob Hill is the last remaining powerhouse out of the fourteen that once served the city, and in addition to the machinery, it is also home to the San Francisco Cable Car Museum, where tourists can watch the equipment from above.
