Description
Apollo 14 was the third mission that landed humans on the moon, and was the eighth maned Apollo mission. It was launched on January 31st, 1971 and entered lunar orbit on February 4th. While Alan Shepard Jr. and Edgar Mitchell descended to the lunar surface, astronaut Stuart Roosa remained in the command module, Kitty Hawk. The command module splashed down on February 9th, 1971.
The Apollo 14 command module Kitty Hawk is on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. From it's beginnings as a small trailer in the early 1960s, it has grown into a museum complex that houses several spacecraft including a Saturn V moon rocket, the Space Shuttle Atlantis, the Apollo 14 command module, among many other artifacts.
