Description
A California oak tree is silhouetted against a dramatic sky.
The California live oak, also known as a coast live oak, is an evergreen native to California. It grows west of the Sierra Nevada from Mendocino county to northern Baja California in Mexico. Some coast live oaks live up to 250 years. The coast live oak is the only California native oak that thrives in the coastal environment, although it is rare on the immediate shore. Normally the tree is found on coastal hills and plains. Oak trees like this one are found throughout San Luis Obispo county. There are over twenty species of native California oaks. Several grow only within California, while others can be found from Canada to Mexico.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt that this image fits that bill. CONGRATULATIONS! And consider adding your image to DISCUSSIONS "Please post your featured photograph here" for greater, long-lasting visibility.
