Description
Everybody poops, including this Roseate Spoonbill flying over Florida Everglades National Park.
Roseate Spoonbills are a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family. They are 28-34 inches long, with a 47 to 52 inch wingspan. The pink color is derived from their diet, ranging from pale pink to bright magenta. Spoonbills use their spoon-shaped bill to sift through mud as it feeds on crustaceans, aquatic insects, frogs, newts, and very small fish. They nest in shrubs or trees, and lay two to five eggs. Their range is from Florida to South America year around, and they also spend winters in Mexico and Central America.
