Description
Walking down rue des Remparts in Old Quebec City, you stumble across the Gothic door that can only lead to the meeting place of the secret society known as "The Order of the Spider People."
This brick and freestone house comes complete with an oriel and turret and ornamental balconies. At 14, rue des Remparts, the house has been a part of Quebec City since it was built in 1900. Quebec City is the only walled city in North America. The stone fortifications surrounding it were built to protect from attacks by the British in the south, an effort that eventually proved fruitless as the French ceded Quebec City to Britain after the French and Indian War.
There are many old doors, windows, and stone walls on the houses along rue des Remparts. These historical buildings make up part of the Historic District of Old Quebec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
