Death Valley is such a beautiful place, but now it has all been taken over by the big corporations...you cannot just go and visit like we used to do when I was a kid....but then....nothing is like it was when I was a kid! LOL...wonderful capture! FLPG

Artist's Description

Zabriskie Point is located off of highway 190, near the southeast entrance of Death Valley National Park. The point and the surrounding badlands are part of the Amargosa Range, a region created by sediments from the bottom of an ancient lake that existed about nine million years ago. As the mountains rose and Death Valley sunk, the soft sedimentary rock was exposed to weather and was eroded away by water runoff.

Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest, and lowest place in North America. In 1913 the temperature in Death Valley reached 134F (56.7C), holding the record of the highest ambient air temperature ever recorded on Earth. Summer temperatures of 120F are common. It was formed in 1933 as a national monument and was expanded became a national park in 1994.

About Darin Volpe

Darin Volpe

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
