Description
ГЛУБИНОМЕР (Latin: GLUBINOMER) is the Russian Cyrillic word meaning "Depth Gauge." This ГЛУБИНОМЕР is from the former Soviet Union submarine, Scorpion, now moored in Long Beach Harbor beside the Queen Mary.
Scorpion is a former Soviet Union diesel-electric Project 641-class (NATO designation Foxtrot class) submarine. It was built in 1971 and served with the Russian Pacific Fleet until it was decommissioned in 1994. It was based out of Vladivostok, Russia, with a primary mission to protect Soviet ballistic missile submarines in the Pacific. After serving with the Russian navy, it was sold to a group of Australian business men and was towed to Sydney. In May of 1998 it was moved to Long Beach, California and berthed beside the Queen Mary.
