The setting sun peeks out from behind a cloud on the Caribbean Sea between St. Maarten and the US Virgin Islands.
The Caribbean Sea is one of the largest seas, with an area of about one million square miles. It is the most popular cruising region in the world, with nine out of the ten most popular cruise ship ports in the world in the area. The name "Caribbean" comes from "Caribs," the name of one of the dominant Native American groups in the area at the time the Europeans arrived. The area is home to twenty-five countries and approximately 7,000 islands.
