"Every time we go out to a formal affair I arrive all decked out in my beautiful lace ready to stun all the other guests, and you just have to start gyrating around like a crazy old coot!"

Sometimes nature just won't cooperate and you have to make the best of it. This beautiful Great Egret was standing in the marsh at the Merced National Wildlife Refuge. As I started taking photos, a black American Coot meandered over, parked itself at the Egret's feet, and refused to get out of my shot. Once I gave up on a photo of a beautiful lone Egret I decided to focus on the interaction between the white and black birds, and I came home with my favorite set of photos from the trip.

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
