Description
If you build it, they will come - especially if it's a 400-room luxury hotel on San Diego's waterfront.
When Ted Williams was playing with the Pacific Coast League Padres in 1936, it probably never occurred to him that the baseball field sandwiched between a railyard and the docks would one day be a home to a luxury hotel along a redefined San Diego waterfront. The hotel complex, opened in 2016, is part of San Diego's effort to integrate new construction with open spaces. Its central park serves as a pathway between downtown and the waterfront.
This Marriott hotel is part of the Lane Field Project, a pair of hotels flanking a two acre public park built on the former Padres baseball field on San Diego's waterfront. This architectural abstract of walls and windows was photographed about four months before the building was completed.
