The Pantheon in Rome is one of the best preserved ancient monuments in the world, thanks to its continued use since its construction in 125 AD. It became a Christian church in 609 which saved it from the abandonment and dilapidation or destruction that doomed most of ancient Rome's buildings during medieval times. Even as the most preserved of the ancient Roman buildings, it still suffered the loss of much of its marble, bronze, and sculptures through the centuries.
