Description
You wouldn't know by looking, but this is a Red-Winged Blackbird. The name comes from the male, a striking all black bird with bright red and yellow markings on his wings. Male birds tend to get all the attention due to their flashy colors and markings, but the beauty of this brown speckled female can't be discounted. While males need those flashy colors to get the ladies' attention, females are much more interested in blending in to their surroundings to protect them and their nests from predators.
