Artist's Description
Looking up at the facade of the Library of Celus.
The Library of Celus was built around 117 A.D. as a library and tomb for Gaius Julius Celsus Polmaenus, the Roman governor of the province of Asia. It was one of the largest libraries of the ancient world, serving as a repository of over 12,000 scrolls. Celsus was entombed under the library in a lead coffin encased in a decorated marble sarcophagus. The library was destroyed by at least two ancient earthquakes, and the building lay in ruins until the facade was rebuilt by archaeologists between 1970 and 1978.
If you do not purchase framing, note that this print will fit uncropped into a 4"x6" and 8"x12" inch frame. It should also fit into a 13"x19" frame by cropping 1/4 inch from each side.
About Darin Volpe

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
