Description
Any Elephant Seal mom will tell you that it's not easy raising a pup from a 70 pound newborn to a 300lb lad in only four weeks.
Five miles north of the town of San Simeon, California, you'll find a place straight out of a National Geographic Special. Over 25,000 Northern Elephant Seals spend the winter fighting, mating, and giving birth on an eight-mile stretch of beach on the edge of California's Pacific Coast Highway. Although winter is the busiest season, seals can be seen on the beach year-around. The Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery has a viewing boardwalk high above the beach, where you can safely view these magnificent creatures without disturbing them.
