Artist's Description
"You should have been here last week," my friend told me when I visited her in Vermont. But I think that this post-peak fall foliage view of the sky was enhanced by the bare branches.
It's hard to know exactly when to go because the peak days shift depending on the weather. But as I learned in this mid-October trip, even if you miss the peak, you'll still be treated to a beautiful display. This view of the sky was made while lying on my back on a path in northern Vermont.
Autumn in New England draws millions of visitors from throughout the world. The leaves' spectacular transformation to the fall colors begins around mid-September, going from greens to yellows, oranges, and reds, and then finally giving way to "stick season" in mid to late October when the trees go bare.
About Darin Volpe

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
