Artist's Description

Railfans call the orange paint schemes of the BNSF Railway "pumpkins." The scheme was adopted when the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroads merged in 1996 by taking the colors and style from the former Great Northern Railway (one of the railroads that combined to form Burlington Northern) and combining it with the font and logo from the Santa Fe. It has since gone through three revisions, the one pictured here being the latest and photographed in October of 2020.
