Description
What seems to be an oxymoron actually points the way to a small cemetery containing the graves of five "surfmen" who gave their lives while on duty at the life saving station at Point Reyes Beach in the 1890s. Crews at the life saving station patrolled the beaches looking for shipwrecks, ready to put their surfboat into the water to rescue the imperiled mariners. Over the course of 78 years the crews rescued the crews of 100 vessels.
