Description
The Aon center in the foreground partially blocks the view of Two Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago.
Tha Aon Center at 200 E. Randolph Street in Chicago was completed in 1974. It stands 83 floors and at 1,136 feet it is the fourth tallest building in Chicago. It was originally clad in Italian Carrara marble, but cracks and bowing proved to be a problem even during construction and in the early 1990's it was completely resurfaced with Mount Airy white granite.
Two Prudential Plaza, at 995 feet, has the distinction of being the building in the United States closest to 1000 feet without going over. It's design was awarded the Best Structure Award in 1995 from the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
