Description
Under a forest of wind turbines, diesel trucks haul their cargo over the Tehachapi Mountains.
Highway 58 and Interstate 5 are the two major highways between Southern California and all points north. On the 25th of February, 2023 both were closed, causing hundreds of trucks to wait on freeway ramps for the snow to stop and the road to clear. Once opened, hundreds of trucks poured onto Highway 58 between Mojave and Bakersfield to deliver their cargo.
Wind conditions in the Tehachapi Pass make it an ideal location for a wind farm and was chosen for one of the first large-scale wind farms in the United States. Over 4,500 turbines on the mountain produce about 3,200 megawatts of electricity.
