Artist's Description
40 miles northeast of Las Vegas is a 40,000 acre Nevada state park where Aztec sandstone glows red in the desert sun, giving the valley its name. It was dedicated in 1935 and is Nevada's oldest and largest state park, but the formations themselves have been 150 million years in the making. Humans have occupied the land as long as 11,000 years ago and the Basketmaker culture left petroglyphs behind in the stone 2,500 years ago. The park also holds the distinction of standing in for Veridian III, the site where Captain James T. Kirk met his demise in Star Trek Generations.
About Darin Volpe

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
