Skydance -- Clouds and Wildflowers at Carrizo Plain National Monument, California Canvas Print

The heavy rains of 2017 brought an intense bloom of wildflowers across the state of California. As I walked up a hill to an overlook at Carrizo Plain National Monument in central California, I was fascinated by the wind-blown clouds as they seemed to rain down onto a row of fiddlenecks who in turn reached into the sky to meet them.

Carrizo Plain is a National Monument in central California. It is the largest remaining area of the vast grassland that covered California's Central Valley before it was converted to crop land. In addition to wildflowers, the monument is home to antelope, elk, and a myriad of smaller animals and birds.

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
