Description
Over 20,000 Monarch Butterflies call Pismo Beach their winter home each October through February. The butterflies cluster in groups like this, layering their wings like shingles as they hang from the eucalyptus trees to protect each other from rain and and keep each other warm. The butterflies of Pismo Beach are an unusual variety. While most Monarchs live only six weeks, these Monarchs have a unique way of storing fat that lets them live six months.
