Artist's Description

Geyserite deposits around Doublet Pool in Yellowstone's Upper Geyser Basin channel water from the spring and through a series of pools of decreasing temperature. The water coming out of the spring is too hot for most bacteria, so it is blue and very clear. As the water flows away from the source it cools, and orange and brown cyanobacteria give Yellowstone's springs their spectacular colors.
