Description
A land of fourteen waterfalls draws visitors to the foothills of the Cascade Mountains near Salem, Oregon.
What was once a land of fire and volcanoes has been transformed into a lush green forest where streams fall over high stone cliffs. North Falls is the third tallest of the waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park. Soft sandstone sandwiched between layers of basalt has eroded away over time, leaving behind an undercut over 100 feet deep behind the falling water. The Trail of Ten Falls passes through this cavern, allowing for views of the forest from the back of the waterfall.
Silver Falls State Park is the largest of all of Oregon's State Parks. Trails snake through the canyons, passing behind four of the waterfalls in the park. Ten waterfalls are accessible along the seven-mile Trail of Ten Falls, and a one of a few that are easily accessible from the road.
