Description
Whether 1937 or 2017, this view of the Atlantic Ocean from the teak deck of a Holland America Line ship wouldn't be too different.
This photo was made on the promenade deck of the Holland America's MS Maasdam in the spring of 2015 as she sailed from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida up the Atlantic coast. Built in 1993, the Maasdam became the fifth ship with that name in the Holland America fleet and the first to bear that name since 1968. As of 2017 the Maasdam is the oldest ship operated by HAL.
Holland America Line was founded in 1893. It's headquarters was in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and it provided cargo and passenger service to the Americas. Cargo service ended with the 1973 sale of it's shipping division, and in 1989 the company was was purchased by Carnival Corporation.
