Watching the Watcher -- Roosevelt Elk in Redwood National Park, California Canvas Print

A living portrait of nature's unbridled beauty, a Roosevelt elk lifts its head to observe its observer at Elk Prairie State Park, in Redwood National and State Parks, California.

On a late May afternoon, a young Roosevelt elk stands with a majestic presence. Still in the early bloom of its existence, it sports a new set of budding velvet-covered antlers. It's dark brown eyes display a sense of caution and awareness, but not fear as It has grown accustomed to the near constant presence of the strange two-legged creatures that share this meadow.

Redwood National and State Parks, located along the northern California coast in the United States, encompass a collective area dedicated to the preservation of the iconic redwood trees. Encompassing over 139,000 acres, these parks safeguard a significant portion of the remaining coastal redwood forests, celebrated for being home to some of the tallest and oldest trees on Earth.

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive.
