The Golden Gate Bridge photographed from Fort Point in the Presidio of San Francisco.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the channel separating San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. It was built between 1933 and 1937, and with a main span of 4,200 feet remained the longest suspension bridge span in the world until 1964. It has a total length of 8,981 feet, has 220 feet of clearance below, and a total height of 746 feet to the top of the towers. About 110,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily. It was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1987.
