This mother moose was at the Denali National Park visitors center, where she had given birth to a calf only three days previous. The moose is the largest member of the deer family, and the Alaskan moose subspecies is the largest North American moose.
Denali National Park & Preserve is located in Interior Alaska and offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing. The park and preserve encompass six-million acres of land and includes the highest point in in North America, Denali, at 20,310 feet above sea level. The park was established in 1917 as Mount McKinley National Park. In 1980, the National Park was combined with Denali National Monument and the combined unit was named the Denali National Park and Preserve. The Denali Park Road parallels the Alaska Range for 92 miles from the George Parks Highway entrance to Kantishna. Access is restricted after the 15th mile to tour and shuttle busses, and private vehicles are prohibited except under special circumstances. The Park...
