Description
This statue is one of 19 stainless steel servicemen sculpted by Frank Gaylord of Barre, Vermont, for the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
Dedicated in 1995, the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., commemorates the sacrifices almost six-million Americans who served in the U.S. armed services during the conflict. It consists of Gaylord's statues, a mural wall that contains over 2,500 photographs representing support personnel and equipment, a Pool of Remembrance honoring those who were killed, wounded, missing in action, and prisoners of war, and a wall listing the members of the United Nations that contributed troops or medical support to the war effort.
