A Morrison-Knudsen 3200 series in service on Chicago's brown line pulls into the Adams/Wabash 'L' station.
The Chicago "L" (for "elevated") is the rapid transit system serving the city of Chicago and the surrounding area. It is the fourth largest rapid transit system in the United States at 102.8 miles, and third busiest after the New York subway and Washington Metro. It is the second oldest rapid transit system in the United States, the oldest sections beginning operations in 1892. Only New York City's system is older. Although best known for it's elevated sections, parts of the network run as subways and at grade level.
Morrison-Knudsen's 3200 series is a series of cars built between 1992 and 1994 for the Chicago Transit Authority to operate on the famous Chicago "L." It was the last of five series of Chicago "L" cars known as the "High Performance Family" and the last Chicago railcars to use direct current motors. They are expected to remain in use until replaced...
I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
