The mid 1990s were a great time to photograph trains on the old SP Coast Line. Union Pacific was on it's buying spree, and having just acquired the Southern Pacific it brought paint schemes to San Luis Obispo that would have never been seen before. Unfortunately, it also simultaneously ushered in the era of homogenization - with the UP repainting everything in Armour yellow it would be a short-lived opportunity. One of the lost liveries would be the once common St. Louis Southwestern, a division of the now absorbed Southern Pacific.
This St. Louis Southwestern locomotive was captured in 1996, shortly after it left the San Luis Obispo, California, station and about to go under Mill Street.
I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. My photography varies from Architecture to Industrial Art to Nature to Wildlife and I'm sure you'll find something suitable for your home or office. Visit my blog
