The Dance - Channel Islands National Park Framed Print

Two fennel plants have a dance at Santa Cruz Island, Channel Islands National Park.

Channel Islands National Park consists of five islands off the coast of southern California. Although close to mainland California, the park is only accessible by boat or aircraft and the islands only see about 30,000 visitors per year. It has been called "The American Galapagos" due to evolution proceeding independently because of the islands' isolation - 145 species of plant and animal found on the Channel Islands do not exist anywhere else in the world. The Channel Islands were first protected as a National Monument in 1938 and elevated to National Park status by Congress in 1980. In addition to the five islands, the park extends another mile out to sea, and the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary protects the waters out to almost seven miles.

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive. Beyond the local area, I have traveled throughout California and the western United States, visited far away American destinations such as Chicago, New York, Florida, and Alaska, and international destinations in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
