The Dome Behind the Fence -- Santorini Dominican Convent in Santorini, Greece Tapestry

The Greek island of Santorini is an architectural photographer's paradise. Walking around the town of Fira presented countless views like this whitewashed dome against a perfect blue sky.

The black wrought iron fence with sharp points and detail contrasts nicely against the large smooth blocks of white and color of the buildings behind it. Someone rode their bicycle here today, a logical development in a town with few roads.

The Santorini Dominican Convent is in the Catholic quarters of Fira, the Greek island's capitol. Many Greek Orthodox Catholic churches and religious buildings are found on Santorini, most in the classic Greek style with whitewashed walls decorated with black rocks and a dome topped by a cross.

I have been photographing the things I see for over thirty years. A resident of San Luis Obispo County, I'm lucky to have many excellent photo destinations within a few minutes' or hours' drive.
