Description
After picking out a place to land, this Snow Goose comes in for a landing in a gap in its flock.
When they're not breeding in the tundra north of the Arctic Circle, Snow Geese migrate south, mostly on one of three major paths. The Eastern group travels down the coast between Massachusetts and South Carolina. There's a mid-continent population that overwinters in the fields of the American flyover states from Nebraska to Louisiana.
This goose is part of the Western Population that spends the colder months from the Pacific Northwest of the United States down into Mexico. It's winter home this year is the Merced National Wildlife Refuge in California's Central Valley. It will spend the days in the shallow wetlands with up to 60,000 of it's closest friends, occasionally taking to the sky singly or in flocks of thousands for a spin around the refuge before coming back down.
