Description
Not content with turning a $500 beater into a race car, some teams that enter the 24-Hours of Lemons race put an abundance of creativity into their vehicles. Black Iron Racing's entry for the March 2018 Sears Pointless race was a BMW E36 3-Series with a V8 engine pulled out of a Chevy Suburban and a bit of unique body work that surprised everyone by coming in 10th place overall in a field of over 150 cars.
The 24 Hours of LeMons is an endurance race for cars that are bought and prepped for the track for $500 USD or less. Just about anything with four wheels that was street legal when it was made and passes the safety inspection is welcome. The rules do let you spend more for the wheels, brakes, and required safety gear, but if the judges decide the basic car is worth more than $500 you'll be penalized one lap for each $10 they decide you've gone over. No prior racing experience or training is required - if you've got a driver's license and an old beater, you're ready to race.
