Description
Rays of sunshine come down from the heavens and light an explosion of wildflowers along the Nelson Range on the western side of Death Valley National Park. Dramatically backlit, this black and white photo of a setting sunburst brings out the glow of the field of flowers on a beautiful spring afternoon.
Death Valley National Park was originally a National Monument established in 1933. In 1994 it was elevated to National Park status. Located in the rain shadow of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it is the hottest and driest of all the national parks in the United States. It's lowest point is 282 feet below sea level, the second lowest point in the Western Hemisphere.
