Sundial Bridge crosses the Sacramento River in Turtle Bay Exploration Park in Redding California.
Designed by Santiago Calatraya, Sundial Bridge is a cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge, with a single tower rising 217 feet into the air and a 710-foot glass deck crossing the river below. This modern design eliminated the need for bridge piers, leaving the river clear for the salmon that spawn beneath. The tower rises on the north side of the river where a path winds under the elaborate concrete structure.
The bridge has its name because it is, in fact, a giant sundial. The bridge is oriented directly north/south, and it's tall tower casts its shadow to indicate the time on the markers on the ground below.
