Description
In 1931, this bridge was the way to get to the Pacific Coast on the newly opened Olympic Loop Highway. Today, it stands abandoned as the forest of the Olympic Peninsula moves in on it.
The old bridge is on a piece of property a short 15 minute drive from Forks, Washington, a town made famous in the Twilight Saga of book and film. The property is rumored to be where the real-life house that inspired the Cullen's residence in the book (but not the film) is located. Whether Twilight fans or not, guests of the Cabins at Beaver Creek near Sappho, Washington, can enjoy a walk out to this interesting relic at the end of what's left of the old road.
This was one of several pictures of the bridge that I shot. Being around Halloween when I edited them, I was in the mood to turn one into something leaning towards the creepy. I didn't know at the time that the property this old US101 bridge is on was home to fictional vampires, but perhaps my editing was influenced by powers from beyond.
