Description
Robert Bartholomew, an interior designer at Chevrolet, designed the first Corvette logo for its introduction in 1953. The now iconic logo originally sported the American flag crossed over the familiar checkered flag, but just four days before the car's debut Chevrolet sent the design back because it fell afoul of the flag code which prohibits using the American flag for advertising. The US flag was replaced with one which included the Chevrolet "Bow Tie" and the French fleur-de-lis ,which was chosen to reflect founder Louis Chevrolet's French heritage.
This is the third incarnation of the design, used from 1958 until 1961.
